What is climate change ?

Over the last thousand years, earth climate has changed several times (glaciations are one example of this phenomenon). However, when nowadays we use the term climate change we refer to something quite different. The climate change we are dealing with is directly produced by manmade activities and will take place in a shorter time (less than a century). It will have a tragic impact on our planet and our way of life: extreme weather (drought, floods, hurricanes) will be more common, sea levels will rise (which will force more than 150 million people to leave their home) and agricultural yields will be reduced (which will increase the likelihood of starvation).
Climate change is then considered as the biggest challenge mankind has ever faced.

When we fly, when we drive or even in other daily activities we produce Green House Gases. These gases will go into the atmosphere and will create a greenhouse effect. It means our rejections will artificially increase the temperature and modify the environmental balance of our planet, which will have tragic impacts on several parts of our planet. The most well known of these gases is carbon dioxide, the main culprit of climate change.

We cannot solve the problem overnight. Nevertheless, environmental awareness is spreading through societies, cultures and governments. The European Union is at the forefront of the fight against climate change and several states such as Germany or the UK have established their own reduction targets. But climate change is not only state’s worry, it is the issue of everyone. We can all do something by spreading environmental awareness, buying environmental friendly products and above all lobbying our politicians to keep their words about this issue. But there is another possibility: carbon offset For more information about climate change issue, go to
